Program Initiatives
The objective of the NYU ADVANCE-PAID Faculty Development Program is to facilitate the advancement of junior women faculty to the level of associate professor with tenure and mid-career women to the level of full professor. The program provides support to increase their level of academic productivity and visibility. The integrative approach is based on: coaching, education/training, and networking and visibility in the field.

The Faculty Mentoring Program pairs junior and mid-career women faculty members with successful senior faculty mentors. Mentors can include both men and women, and can cross disciplinary lines and departments. Faculty Mentors are expected to assist mentees with the preparation of grant proposals and manuscripts; provide advice on strategies for how to prioritize the multiple demands of teaching, research, and service; offer emotional support and encouragement; assist with the establishment of professional networks, and provide continuous objective feedback to their partners on their progress. Mentors are required to attend a mentoring workshop before partnering with a more junior faculty member. Mentors will receive a small research grant in return for their time and effort, and their efforts will be recognized by their departments as a service contribution.ADVANCE Research Challenge Grants provide seed funds to women scientists to conduct new projects to enhance their ability to compete successfully for external funding. The competition is open to full-time faculty with appointments in Biology, the Center for the Study of Human Origins, Chemistry, Computer Science, Neural Science, Mathematics, Psychology, or Physics. Special consideration is given to proposals from junior and mid-career faculty.
The application deadline for the 2010-2011 academic year is June 1, 2010.
