Overview

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the NYU ADVANCE Partnerships for Adaptation, Implementation, and Dissemination (PAID) program seeks to increase the participation and advancement of women scientists at the university.

The NYU ADVANCE-PAID program is guided by two goals: 1) transformation of the institutional climate at NYU through programs that facilitate the recruitment and advancement of women in science, and 2) promotion of diversity studies at NYU and other institutions.

The shorter-term goals aim at an immediate improvement in the situation of women scientists at NYU, particularly with regard to 1) advancement of women faculty in the science departments at NYU, with a particular focus on junior and mid-career women faculty; and 2) a significant increase in the number of women faculty at all levels in the STEM departments at NYU and other area colleges and universities.

Strategies for implementing these goals include an array of programs and initiatives, including institutionalizing mentoring, development training, and career assessment; providing greater access to and opportunities for networking and visibility through travel support, citywide symposia in collaboration with other New York City institutions, and a family support initiative to aid in fieldwork and travel; providing recruitment training and incentives to departments; and creating small research challenge grants to expand research opportunities.
