ADVANCE Women-in-Science Travel Grants

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the ADVANCE Women-in-Science Travel Grant Program is designed to help women faculty to expand their professional networks and enhance their visibility.

ELIGIBILITY
The ADVANCE travel support is limited to full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members with appointments in Biology, the Center for the Study of Human Origins, Chemistry, Computer Science, Neural Science, Mathematics, Psychology, or Physics. The program is designed to give priority to professional travel that cannot be funded from other sources.

The program is intended to support a presentation at a national or international conference. The program will not support certain types of activities including attending a meeting or conference without presenting, presenting a poster only, accepting an invitation to present a seminar or colloquium at other institutions, presenting at a symposium sponsored by a university or department, or attending a meeting to solely “chair” a session.

AWARD
The maximum amount available for each travel award is $3,000. The award may be used for any travel-related expenses (e.g., lodging, meals, transportation, and registration) that are allowable and allocable to the Federal Government as defined in the OMB Circular A-21.

SELECTION CRITERIA AND REVIEW PROCESS
The NYU ADVANCE Steering Committee will review, evaluate and recommend award recipients to the ADVANCE Program Director. Evaluation criteria will include: the significance of the meeting and its level of importance in the professional field; the nature of the presentation and selection process (e.g., peer review, invitation by session chair, etc.); and the availability of funding from other sources.

REPORTING
All award recipients are required to submit a short written report to the Program Director summarizing the outcome of the travel and how it contributed to academic career advancement.

APPLICATION
The program has two rounds for application and support. The annual application deadlines are:

                    March 1 for travel from July 1 through December 31
                    October 1 for travel from January 1 through June 30

A complete application, including a copy of an acceptance letter or conference program, must be submitted electronically to advance@nyu.edu Awardees will be notified within one month of the application deadline.
